Students to Participate in Bibb County Readers' Cup
March 1, 2012

Students from eight District elementary schools will compete in the seventh annual Bibb County Readers' Cup on Thursday, March 22, at 9:30 a.m. at Jones Elementary School.

Second- and third-graders will compete in the quiz-bowl style contest, answering questions about the 20 Georgia Picture Storybook Award nominees for 2012. Some of the nominees for 2012 include "I Need My Monster" by Amanda Noll, "Ivan the Terrier" by Peter Catalanotto, "The Incredible Book-Eating Boy" by Oliver Jeffers, "Interrupting Chicken" by David Ezra Stein, and "The Curious Garden" by Peter Brown.

Every student participating in the Bibb County Readers' Cup has read the 20 books and participated in competition and testing at their own school. The top competitors from each school will vie for the Readers' Cup title.

Jones Elementary School won the Bibb County Readers' Cup trophy in 2011. The trophy will be passed on to the 2012 winner. The participating schools are Burdell-Hunt Magnet, Bruce Elementary, Jones Elementary, Lane Elementary, Porter Elementary, Skyview Elementary, Vineville Academy of the Arts, and Williams Elementary schools.

Jones Elementary School is located at 2350 Alandale Drive. For more information, contact Bibb County Readers' Cup Co-Chair Janice Habersham at (478) 779-3952.
