Local Author to Visit Vineville Academy for Read-Aloud
February 21, 2012

Vineville Academy of the Arts will host a Read-Aloud on Monday, February 27, at 10 a.m.

Local author and professor Dr. Catherine Meeks will read her favorite children's book, "The Talking Eggs," written by Robert D. San Souci and illustrated by Jerry Pinkey. The book is adapted from a Creole folktale, with Cajun or Gullah overtones.

Also, in conjunction with Black History Month, Vineville Academy's Media Center is sponsoring an Inventions by African-Americans that Changed the World Contest. Students are encouraged to research a collection of inventions made by African-Americans, which are on display in the school's lobby, including the inventor and the year it was invented.

Vineville Academy of the Arts is located at 2260 Vineville Avenue. For more information, contact the school at (478) 779-3250.
