Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (GSNS)

(Program also known as SB10 Procedures)

Parents of students in grades K through 12 may request a GSNS transfer within the district. Applications for GSNS transfers will be accepted annually between May 15, 2013 and September 16, 2013.

More information may be found at the State Department of Education GSNS website

In order to request such a transfer, parents/guardians must complete and submit the Application for Special Needs Scholarship Transfer to the District Welcome Center at 2003 Riverside Drive.

All such transfer requests must be received by the Bibb County School System by September 16, 2013. Additionally, only one special needs transfer per student will be considered during each school year.

All requests for transfers shall be approved, provided all of the following are met:

- The student meets all eligibility criteria;

- The school requested has a program with the services defined in the child's IEP; and

- The requested school has available space (both in the school and in the program with the services defined in the child's IEP). The child shall be allowed to attend the requested school until he or she completes the highest grade of the school, graduates, or reaches the age of 22, whichever occurs first, in accordance with federal and state requirements for disabled students.

GSNS transfers are for individual students, not family groups.

GSNS transfer students do not automatically progress into the feeder school and must seek another transfer in order to be eligible to do so.

The parent/guardian shall be responsible for transportation to and from the school.
