Transfer Timeline for the 2010-11 School Year

In light of austerity reductions and increased class sizes, the District is taking a new approach as to how it will handle transfers and the transfer process for the upcoming school year. The following information is being provided to help in addressing transfer information with our parents and other stakeholders.

All students not currently being served under a transfer option will have to begin the school year at their zoned school.

May – Mid September

• Applications accepted for Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (Also known as SB10)

July – Mid September
• Applications and approvals for transfers under the following options will be given priority at qualifying schools:
o No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
o Children of Employees
o Existing continuing transfers.
• Preliminary list of schools eligible to accept HB251 transfers announced.
• Application period for HB251 (July 12 – July 30)

Mid – Late September

• HB 251 transfers will be selected by lottery.
• HB 251 students will be given a period of time to enroll at the choice school (TBA). If the student has not enrolled by the deadline, the transfer is null and void and the student must remain at their zoned school.

Late September – Early October

• Elective transfers will be reviewed and will only be granted based on school and grade level capacity. Elective transfers include:
o Proximity to School
o Proximity to Daycare
o Separation of Children
o Emotional Adjustment Problems
o Social Service Agencies
o Out of County
